Introduction
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, has initiated a Capacity Building Programme to enable officials at city and state level acquire the necessary skills to understand the need of city in planning and design of safe transport system and help in building safe transport infrastructure in the urban transport sector. As a part of this initiative, Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Programme (TRIPP), Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, is organizing “Planning and Design of Safe Transport Infrastructure: Workshop-cum-Training Programme”, 22-24 September 2015.

Workshop Objectives
This three days workshop-cum-training programme will bring together professionals working in the area of city and transportation planning, road and traffic safety, highway planning and safety, and law enforcement agencies to acquaint them with the state-of-the-art information in the field. The workshop is especially designed for an interdisciplinary audience of transport policy planners, police officers, traffic and road engineers, highway planners and city transport authorities. The contents of the workshop are especially focused to give a system perspective to the road traffic safety and design of transport infrastructure.

The workshop especially designed for the participants who must be working in Transport/Traffic Departments of States/Union Territories and Municipal Corporations.


Participants

Out of 23 nominations received 18 participants from 12 states were attended the workshop. The participants attended from city police departments, state road transport departments, Public Works Department and Municipal Councils..

Host Institution

Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Programme (TRIPP) at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India

is an interdisciplinary programme focusing on the reduction of adverse health effects of road transport. Faculty members are involved in planning safer urban transportation systems and infrastructure for the future. It is the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations International Centre of Excellence and Ministry of Urban Development, Centre of Excellence for urban transport.
